Kiani del Valle is a Puerto Rican choreographer whose choreographed pieces break from conventions to make a statement. With a style that does not quite fit into a specific genre, she founded KDV Dance Ensemble in Berlin, exploring subjects such as displacement and androgyny through dance. In her dance choreography, Kiani draws from collaboration between dance and different mediums, such as video, theatre, music, visual art and feature films. In the world of dance, the legacy she leaves behind is her choreographic craft formulated through authentic movement, character development, and the disruption of classical dance structures and formations. The audacity of boundary-breaking dancers, such as Kiana is celebrated on the International Day of Dance in April each year.
